john whitmarsh

john’s roots as a visual artist began in photography and filmmaking, then shifted into sculpture after finishing film school. finding satisfaction in creating tangible objects with his own hands, he began working exclusively in ceramics for its range of possibilities and its noble tradition.

today, john works interchangeably in a variety of materials having developed a style that places emphasis on the appearance of materials and how they are constructed. his surfaces are formed as much from reclaimed materials such as pallets and discarded metals as they are from materials of much more surprising origins such as used asphalt.
