read before you buy this tile

  • CORRECT TILE QUANTITY/OVERAGE. Request that your design professional/installer measure and determine the precise square footage needed for the project. (We recommend adding a minimum of 20% more to account for overage, although certain materials and collections suggest 20-30% for overage.)

  • TIMING. Budget enough time for the installation with your design professional/installer for the type of tile you are thinking of installing and make sure to take into account shipping delays.

  • SAMPLING. Ensure that your design professional/installer provides samples using the product you are interested in. (Please note that most of our tiles are handcrafted using natural materials, and product samples or website photography may not match the full tile order.)

  • TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS. You and your design professional/installer must be familiar with all material specifications (on each product page). If you do not understand them, please email contact@outercle.com

  • GROUT. You and your design professional/installer are responsible for selecting a grout that meets your project’s specific needs. Refer to the ANSI and/or ISO standards for your project. Please note that OUTERclé does not provide specific grout brand, type, or color recommendations.

grout

is grouting required?

for dry applications of righe tiles it is not necessary to grout, however it is necessary for exterior applications. if your installation requires grout, use a grout bag to fill the joints due to the shape and depth of the tile.

fornace brioni + cristina celestino terracotta tiles are extremely porous and must be sealed before grouting and as the final step of installation in order maintain their appearance and avoid staining.

what grout joint size should i use?

for applications where grouting is required, a 3/8” grout joint for righe.
what grout type and colors do you recommend?

clé recommends the use of mapei flexcolor cq grout for use with our fornace brioni terracotta.

grout color selection is always up to our client and/or their design professional. however, clé is often asked for our opinion on best grout selections for our tiles. and due to the large array of grout colors that are now available, clé would like to offer this general guideline on a foolproof grout color selection for any of your clé tiles.

first, have your professional tile contractor complete your tile installation, except for the grout portion.
next, when ready to grout, ask your contractor to bring ALL grout color charts from his preferred grout manufacturers, for your review.
lastly, choose a time of day when you are most pleased with the lighting in your space (either natural lighting, installed lighting or a blend of both). during that lighting and time of day, select the grout color that best matches your tile selection.

for more information about grouting please see our fornace brioni terracotta wall material guidelines.
