about this collection
slate is a sustainable, natural, highly durable product that comes in shades of black and grey. the tile is split on the natural grain to yield a cleft texture and matte surface providing a natural slip resistance. this tile is ideal for hard working areas like laundry rooms and entryways.
because the tile is cleaved along its natural grain, each piece varies slightly in thickness.
like most natural stone, slate requires sealing to prevent staining and help with repelling water. sealing slate will also enhance the deep dark grey tones found in this natural stone. we recommend using miracle 511 porous plus before grouting the tile, and after.

Can I use slate in the pool?
Do you offer trim?
We do not offer trim for our slate tiles. Slate is a natural stone and therefore only requires a “honing” of the cut surface with a sander to finish the edge.
How do I clean slate?
Slate is chemically sensitive so only mild pH neutral cleaners should be used. Soapless cleaners are preferred because they minimize streaks and film. Mild, phosphate-free, biodegradable liquid dishwashing soaps or powders or stone soaps are acceptable if rinsing is thorough.
Showers and Baths: Soap scum can be minimized by using a squeegee after each use and using liquid as opposed to bar soaps. To remove soap scum, clé recommends the use of Miracle Porcelain & Ceramic Tile Cleaner.
What is shaling?
This is the process of the slate’s cleft surface to slough off during the first several months of floor (and sometimes, wall) use. This will not happen with every tile, just the tiles that have a section of loosened cleft surface. This process will only expose more slate stone underneath. This process is natural and is not a defect of the slate- but a natural response to wear and tear. It will finish once any loose portion of the slate’s cleft has come off.
