a passport to the poetic and playful

travel memories, cemented

we’ve traveled back to our very first artist collaboration – postcards from myself – more than a decade later, with the artist’s hand-painted patterns now immortalized in our mythology color pairings. this playful collection of cement tile features designs based on the evocative sights and sounds of ruan hoffmann’s global travels (what happens in istanbul does not stay in istanbul). this one-of-a-kind collection is the ultimate nexus of color, narrative and fine art, with a cheeky touch of wanderlust.

a pioneering partnership

we are fascinated by the connection between art and tile. from day one, clé's mission has been to push the boundaries of how we create, view and use tiles. this vision was the genesis of our artist collaborations, which began with ruan hoffmann in 2012. it was a fated friendship; ruan’s expressive, often whimsical artworks translate beautifully into tile collections, with each piece maintaining the playful -- and sometimes provocative - nature of his work.

our artful approach

it’s no secret that clé was born of the core belief that tile is art: each tile is a piece of art; each installation is a work of art; and tile itself is a medium to express art. it is this delicious dialogue of art and tile that fuels collaborations such as postcards from myself. we see tile as the perfect medium through which artists can showcase and extend their work, bringing it to a wider audience in a different, more approachable context.
